THE Under-Secretary of State for India presents his compliments to the Under- Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, and, by direction of the Earl of Crewe, forwards herewith, for the information of the Secretary of State, copy of a telegram from the Viceroy, dated the 6th December, relative to the Pien-ma expedition.

December 6, 1910. EXPEDITION to Pien-ma. See your telegram dated the 1st ultimo. Fifth paragraph of letter dated 17th October from Burmah Government, copy of which was enclosed in letter of 3rd ultimo from Secretary to Government of India, Foreign Department, contains arrangements proposed for your consideration in regard to military police posts in unadministered tract; 27,000 rupees initial and 5,122 rupoes per mensem recurring is estimated as approximate cost. Salaries of officers and men, who would otherwise be employed elsewhere in Myitkyina district, are not included in this estimate.
